Why are we a great choice for weddings?
You are unique. Why shouldn't your wedding be too? Offer your friends and family a classy treat; steer clear of top 40 and everything people would expect to hear. Surprise them with music so old that it is actually fresh again. Old school songs are the best to keep your dance floor energized - they are songs that everyone wants to dance to, young and old. If our music isn't enough, add our crew of professional dancers - Project Soul - to the bill for an electrifying and truly memorable experience.
Who are the Project Soul dancers?
Project Soul is a group of Vancouver’s top professional dancers. Breakdancers, Poppers and Lockers come together to create a unique electrifying performance with impressive choreography and incredible solos. They are the perfect compliment to the Phonix’ show since these dances were born in funk-styles music. Any special occasion will be more memorable with the addition of Project Soul since they will engage your guests and leave a lasting impression.
Song Lists and Special Requests:
Can you learn our special song (first dance, father/daughter etc)?
Yes, we include one special request in the cost of your booking.
What if we want The Phonix to learn many songs?
If there are many songs that you want that aren’t on are list, chances are you’re looking at the wrong band. That said, we will consider learning as many as 4-8 songs in addition to your special request song. We charge an additional $750 for this service.
How much notice does the band need in order to learn our special requests?
Please give us at least six weeks notice.
What music does The Phonix play?
Our current song list of over 100 songs can be found on our website at (link hidden). The selection is mostly in the funk, soul and R&B genres. We play songs that are easy for anyone from any demographic to recognize and dance to.
Who chooses the songs for our event?
Most clients prefer to let the band decide on the exact songs and the order they will be played in throughout the event. This allows the band to read the crowd and use many past years of experience to design sets lists that are sure to keep your crowd dancing and having fun. If there are specific songs on our song list the really want to hear, or that you don't want to hear at all, you may supply us with a "Must Play" or a "Do Not Play" list and we will design our set lists accordingly.
Do you have any DJ's in the band?
No, we do not. However we are happy to supply you with pre-recorded music during the band breaks or for your dinner and cocktail hours. You can also bring us your iPod or media devices at the event and we’ll be happy to play your playlists for you.
Do I have to worry about swearing or offensive material being performed?
No. We keep our show “Family Friendly.”

Setup Time, Space & Equipment Use:
How much time does the Phonix need to setup?
If we are providing full production (sound and lighting), we generally require about 3-4 hours to setup. If we are not providing production (ie: your venue already provides it), we will only need 45-90 minutes. Of course, we are happy to setup before your event starts so that everything is neat and tidy when your guests arrive.
Can I/my guests use your sound system?
You are welcome to use our sound system and microphones to play music or make speeches during the band’s breaks or before or after the performance.
How much space does The Phonix need?
For our 9-piece band, we prefer a space that is minimum 12-feet deep by 18-feet wide. Bigger is always better, but smaller dimensions may also be workable. Our band is very flexible and can fit many spaces. Contact us about your space and we'll be happy to come take a look!
Once the band has finished playing, will equipment be torn down right away or can that wait until the party is over?
The musicians will want to take apart their instruments and clear the stage once the performance has finished, however we are happy to leave the sound system setup and running for up to 30 minutes after the band has finished at no additional cost. After that, you may continue using our sound and lighting at a rate of $250 per hour or portion.
