The Rawn Side of Town is a mother/daughter duo from Shuswap Lake, BC, Canada, consisting of Suzi Rawn and her eldest daughter J Bxby. Their bluesy, Americana influenced alt/rock transmutes pain into power, connecting the musical dots between Janis Joplin, Fleetwood Mac, Sheryl Crow, Amy Winehouse and Lady Gaga, with a lust for life that faces its demons and keeps it real with their motto: Follow your bliss… and the rest will follow…

Growing up in a musical family in which several have had stints as touring musicians, passing around the guitar at every family occasion was the norm. Musical influences were a broad range from the 70s like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith as well as Nirvana and the grunge explosion. Mainstream acts like Michael Jackson and Tina Turner along with songwriting greats like John Prine, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan became a staple in family jam sessions.

Suzi found fame as the 4th place finalist on Canadian idol in 2005 and was signed to Sony/BMG Canada. Daughter J Bxby released her debut album in 2022 before joining her mother’s band as a summer job. They played the surrounding towns’ park music festival series, local pubs and private parties, and when autumn came around the work didn’t slow down. A summer job became a permanent fixture.

Their eponymous debut album The Rawn Side of Town, released in January 2023, set a benchmark for their edgy altrock/country/pop, representative of a generation taking back their power, free of labels. Their late father and grandfather, respectively, was also a touring musician and is featured on the album, keeping his memory and the dream of being a successful musician alive.
