Tracy Weinberg & Friends exemplify musical eclecticism, delighting with their mix of blues, swing, folk, and beyond, with a twist of humor. Their repertoire includes original songs, classic covers, and a few surprises. Tracy’s unique singing style and accompaniment on resonator banjo creates a sound that is both brand new and old-timey. Add in dynamic lead guitar and vocals by Gretchen McMahon, and other musicians who add vocals, percussion, and/or bass, and you’ll find the band sure to please your musical palette, whether performing solo, as a duo, trio, or quartet. Their sound may remind you at times of other performers or bands, but in reality, they sound like exactly like themselves!

We provide both flexibility and professionalism. I can perform solo, and also perform in a duo, trio, or quartet, depending on space, size, and budget. Our music is varied and can please a wide variety of musical tastes. We do both original songs and covers of classic songs from the 1920s through 1970s, from Summertime to Crying Time, from White Bird to Black Magic Woman, covering blues, swing, folk, and popular music, with a repertoire of nearly 100 songs. We can provide our own sound system, if need, and we always arrive well ahead of time to ensure we are set and ready to go whenever you need us to start.
Tracy Weinberg, and his band, Tracy Weinberg and Friends, exemplify the musical variety and eclecticism found in the Central Texas area. With his unique singing style and accompaniment on the dojo (a banjo that has the body of a dobro), he creates a fresh acoustic sound with echoes of blues, swing, folk, and more. Add in clever, thoughtful lyrics with a twist of humor, and this music is sure to please your musical palette. Their repertoire includes original songs, classic covers, and a few surprises.

Growing up, Tracy heard live music ranging from the Chicago Symphony to Ravi Shankar to Iron Butterfly. He began playing banjo at age 16 because "everyone else played guitar" and these experiences led him to play non-traditional music on the banjo. His musical influences are diverse, and include Louis Armstrong, Leon Redbone, Tom Waits, and Bela Fleck.
About 20 years ago, in the midst of a lengthy career as an educator, Tracy renewed his passion for writing and performing. He now regularly performs solo and with his current band, Tracy Weinberg and Friends, at many venues in the Central Texas area.
He has released two CDs of original music. His first recording, Mountains of Dreams, came out in 2012, and charted in the top 30 on the Folk DJ chart. Two songs from that album appear in the independent film, DisAssocationVille. His most recent recording is The Other Way Around, released in 2016.

Tracy's musical influences are wide-ranging, and includes among his most direct influences Louis Armstrong, Leon Redbone, Tom Waits, and Bela Fleck, though he does not particularly sound like any of them. Gretchen, the lead guitarist, grew up listening to and playing fusion music, but her influences are also wide-ranging. We like to think we have a unique sound that encompasses many artists, but sounds like none in particular.
As noted, we can provide our own audio gear, as needed. We are flexible, too, regarding the size of the band, and will work with you to ensure success.
