Taiwanese violinist William Lee, the first prize winner of the 2013 Japan Euroasia International Violin Competition and former concertmaster of The Juilliard Orchestra, has performed internationally in China, Japan, Europe, and the US. In 2023, William embarked on a concert tour throughout mainland China, performing in over 20 cities, including renowned venues such as the Zhongshan Concert Hall in Beijing, the Chongqing Grand Theatre, and the Changsha Concert Hall.
While studying with Lina Yu and Mengla Huang at the Middle School affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory of Music, William has won prizes in numerous competitions, including Euroasia International Violin Competition, Schöntal International Violin Competition, and Schoenfeld International String Competition. He also received the Ishikawa Music Award granting him full scholarship to the Ishikawa Music Academy, and was the concertmaster of the Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Middle School affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory of Music. William was also a featured performer for the 2013 Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference Closing Ceremony Concert and has given recitals in various cities.
William has performed many times as soloist with different orchestras including Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra and Tianjin Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Muhai Tang. William has also been featured in different media such as Shanghai Television Station, Taiwan Eastern Television and Taiwan National Education Radio. While participating in 2019 Queen Elisabeth Competition, William was hailed as “the surprise of the day” by Belgian daily newspaper “Le Soir” and received acclaim for his technique and mature musical interpretation. In 2021, William was honored the Excellent String Teacher award by the Hong Kong International Musician Association and joined the faculty of Chamber Music Institute the following year. In 2022, William won the first prize in the Juilliard Concerto Competition and performed as soloist with The Juilliard Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Manfred Honeck, playing on the Stradivari “Czar of Russia” (1692) on loan from The Juilliard School.
As an exceptional master's graduate of the Juilliard School, William was nominated as the sole recipient of the Norman Benzaquen Career Advancement Grant among classical violinists in 2023.
