When you think "When It Was...", think "TIMELESS". Classy dress, Fedoras, martini glasses clinking in the background, melodies that conjure up romance, and a reverie that remids you that in this fast paced world... we still have an attachment to an era when music really MEANT something. You can expect prompt, professional, and polite musicians... who will be willing to go above and beyond to make your event exactly what you're looking for. Whether you're hiring the duo (consisting of guitar and vocals), or our incomparable quintet... your event will be unforgettable for everyone in attendance.
When It Was... is comprised of musicians from all walks of life. Started by four friends who were already performing together in one of Denver's TOP rock/pop cover bands... we all decided to persue our first love, and give this jazz thing a try. For the past two years, we've been playing every week - diligently building up our fan base, repertoire, and own personal style. We've since been featured at various festivals, corporate events, and numerous clubs and restaurants in throughout the Denver Metro area.
Since our group can range in size from 2-8 musicians, our needs are as flexible as your requirements dictate. We can fit in the tightest corner of your house, to spread out across a full stage. We have two full PA systems at our disposal, as well as battery operated amps for remote gigs. We've even played wedding ceremonies in the middle of nowhere where all guests in attendance were able to enjoy the music - and then moved inside for the reception to our full sound system. Just let us know your needs in advance, and we'll be more than happy to accomodate them!

We are inspired by some of the best performers in the vocal jazz genre, as well as some of the best musicians. Many of our songs mimic the best known versions of those songs - When you're playing The Summer Wind... you want to sound like Sinatra. But when you play But Not For Me, you want to sound like Chet Baker. Sway? - Dean Martin. That's All? - Mel Torme. Some versions have become great for a reason, and no matter who you are, you can't improve upon perfection!
As we've played on street corners, and on some of the larger stages around, our requirements are based upon your needs. Usually a single electrical outlet will do the trick!
