I received my Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance from Lawrence Conservatory of Music and my Master of Music in Flute Performance at James Madison University. I am currently pursuing my Doctorate of Musical Arts in Flute Performance at Rutgers University. I am classically trained but can play in a wide variety of styles, and have experience performing with orchestras, chamber groups, woodwind quintets and string players.

Award-winning flutist Schuyler Thornton is an emerging orchestral and chamber musician, performing across the United States and Europe. She has performed with various ensembles including the Lawrence Symphony Orchestra, Sewanee Symphony and Sewanee Festival Orchestra. Her experience includes performances with conductors such as Larry Livingston, Mei Ann Chen, Carl St. Clair, Cristian Macelaru, JoAnn Falletta, Mark Russell Smith, Kenneth Kiesler and Christopher Warren Green. Schuyler is passionate about chamber music and has performed extensively with her woodwind quintet and flute, viola and piano trio. She is involved with arts administration, taking on leadership roles at the Blue Ridge Chamber Music Festival, Sewanee Summer Music Festival and with the Dean's Advisory Council, Wind Ensemble Advisory Committee, Orchestra Advisory Committee and Search for the Director of Orchestral Activities at Lawrence University. Schuyler is also an advocate of new music, frequently premiering works across the US. Additionally, Ms. Thornton is an active teacher, having experience teaching students of all ages and leading masterclasses. An East Coast native, Schuyler had the privilege to work with many teachers after falling in love with the flute at an early age. Most recently, she has studied with Erin Lesser, Suzanne Jordheim, Patricia George, and Beth Chandler. Ms. Thornton is a graduate of Lawrence University and Conservatory of Music in Appleton, WI, where she received her Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance and Bachelor of Arts in Government. She received her Master of Music at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA, and is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Musical Arts at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ.
